Yes Don was conspicuous by his absence and I think this was duly noted by Senator Judith Adams who did take the time to come along and listen.

Someone raised the question who to vote for to get this stopped and ironically in the absence of Mr Randall, the next Labor candidate for the seat of Canning was introduced :ok:

As for JAH, Ascot and the "independent consultants" (sales team). Probably a very prudent move on their part to stay well away.

Well, we know which side of the fence Don Randall, MP for Canning, is on : http://parlinfoweb.aph.gov.au/piweb/...table=HANSARDR

G'day QFF,

Yes we were somewhat peeved when we read that but Don has since been wiping egg off his face when briefed by a certain aviation professional about the inaccuracies in his address. Particularly the part about the water bomber. :=

I think the term "misleading parliament" was used to reinforce the point that you should not stand up and make outlandish statements without knowing the full facts. :E

Ypjt???

Is THIS the 'end of the end' of the plan to close / move JT??:D
Today's Perth Newspaper, 'The Sunday Times', a rather small article (on page 16 in the 'late edition').....

States that "The FED govt is not supporting a plan to relocate JT .....

"The Commonwealth is in no way supporting any move to close Jandakot at this time", is the quote from the Deputy Sec. of the DOTARS dept.:=

Better yet, Senator Bill Heffernan is quoted as saying that the plan was a sharp opportunity for a developer to convert the area into building blocks
"and get millions of dollars in a bank account somewhere and bugger the inconvenience to everyone else".:= :=

It would therefore appear to be a case of -
"WELL DONE TO THE JT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ET AL.....:D :D :D

And to Gaunty, Clare Prop, and colleagues et al, for keeping us 'up to speed'...:ok:

Cheers:ok: :ok:

Islander Jock 5th Nov 2006 06:24

I wonder if it was the notion of aircraft doing PILS on a one rwy with circuit training on the parallel that convinced the government that these fools didn't know what they were doing:ugh: But that was just one of the many loony ideas they had come up with.

"An exercise in greed, not need?"

Asked the Chair, Sen Heffernan.

The latest "consultation" meeting

Apparently JAH, Arid and Pindan (Ascot) walked out of the latest meeting wiping heaps of egg of their collective faces.

My sources advised that someone in local government actually addressed the developers with words to the effect that the proposal was the most ill conceived and poorly presented he had ever heard in his years of planning.:O

They (Ascot) have been up to some very very dirty tricks := but they are being shot down at every point. The war is not over yet but I doubt they can maintain the casualy rate (their credibility) much longer.

flyboy6876 30th Nov 2006 04:45

I just noticed in the WA Business News that Ascot are now talking about relocating to the north.

Apparently John Fraser MD JAH says

We've been informed unofficially that if we were to find a location north of the river, than all objections would disappear
I guess I would be questioning "How far north of the river"??

Would'nt there be conflict with Pearce?

Anywhere from Joondalup to Kalbarri, I guess.

Ryanair flies into "Paris" (in reality a small regional airport 1.5hrs outside of the French capital) - perhaps Ascot could do the same in Geraldton - "Perth North"!

Islander Jock 30th Nov 2006 06:09

Let there be not doubt in anyones mind. These clowns do not want to buld a second airport anywhere. They just want to get their grubby hands on the Jandakot land for development.

Yeah John, the residents of Mandurah would stop objecting immediately.
you tool!

For a real giggle go to to the Arid website and look at their concept for the new "Air Park". There is some serious crack being smoked by this lot.

I know that IJ - the quote out of the article was tongue in cheek. They can go screw as far as I'm concerned. As a user I have absolutely no interest in driving an additional 60 odd clicks to fly. That would effectively kill any interest I have in flying. Jandakot is well situated now, and with the new offramp from the freeway is no more than 30 odd minutes even from Joondalup. Add the extra bit on to where they are proposing to move and it become a drag.

Islander Jock 15th Dec 2006 03:56

well, well, well,
If what I hear from my contact back in Perth about last nights meeting in Mandurah is true, about all that is left to do is fill in the hole to bury the corpse of ASCOT, ARID and Pindan's proposal.

Those clowns well and truly underestimated the determination, expertise of the Jandakot operators.

Watch this space.... a "ball biter" of a press release is looming!

4SPOOLED 15th Dec 2006 07:59

You will find that murrayfield is soon to be given the status as a licenced aerodrome. Once this happens, they cannot build another aerodrome yet alone a GAAP within Cooeeeeee of it. Plans squashed.
I wouldnt mind though a GAAP around Wanneroo.....when i lived in perth, would change the 40 min drive from joondalup to JT to a short hike:ok: after all NOR is a far better place than SOR ay?

Airport Relocation Bid Crash Lands!

Bwwwaaahhhhhaaaaaaa!!!!!

I wonder if ARID Consulting will put this little exercise on their company profile? A carton of Crownies says they don't

Great work from the small but hard working team in the Chamber of Commerce and residents of North Dandalup who rammed this home to the Minister, Senator Adams, Don Randal MP and everyone else. Finally common sense has prevailed and this mob have been put back in their box. :D

As Clare said "Just a few nails to go" :ok:

I know I said to stand by for a ball bighter of a release. Just didn't think it would come so fast.

Airport relocation bid crash landsBy Tony Barass

A $1 BILLION bid to relocate one of Australia's busiest airports was in tatters last night after the federal Government withdrew its support for the unpopular plan.

Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile said the federal Government would not support Jandakot Airport Holding's plan to move Perth's secondary airport "in any way".

The decision is likely to have ramifications around the nation with many big general aviation airfields being stalked by developers keen to secure large slabs of real estate close to capital cities.

The decision, outlined in a letter from Mr Vaile to the proponents and obtained by The Weekend Australian, was applauded by the Jandakot Chamber of Commerce, which has led the fight against the plan, along with the Aero Club of Western Australia, Royal Flying Doctor Service, various rescue groups and numerous airport-based companies.

Chamber secretary Gary Gaunt said Mr Vaile's announcement would send a message that airports such as Jandakot, Bankstown in southwestern Sydney and Parafield near Adelaide were a crucial part of the national transport infrastructure and not the plaything of real estate developers.

Ascot Capital Limited, which owns JAH and which, in turn, holds a 99-year-lease over Jandakot's 622ha adjacent to the Kwinana Freeway just south of Perth, would not comment on Mr Vaile's decision. The group wanted to relocate Jandakot's three runways 30km further south near Mandurah and was open to a possible land swap involving the state Government.

Part of its argument to relocate was air traffic congestion. But Mr Vaile said he had been assured by Airservices Australia that the airspace could be managed.

Congratulations everyone - well done.

But don`t get too complacent yet.

These unscrupulous souls have invested a lot of money trying to manipulate their way into the ownership of Jandakot. We all know that it was a blatant and entirely selfish grab for the land with no care for the consequences to any organisation or individual.

I am sure that they will fight the fight for a while longer.

Anyone care to speculate on their next move...

the wizard of auz 16th Dec 2006 21:07

another unreasonable rise in rent and aerodrome charges to facilitate the court challenge.

Islander Jock 17th Dec 2006 01:57

Nil Defects,

I am sure that they will fight the fight for a while longer
. They may well do but I would suggest their energy will be now wasted on fighting why they should have to honor the conditions of their lease and airport master plan.

Fact is, they went into this in the most naive and inept way possible. Not one of their reasons for moving was based on soldid evidence or supported by industry experts. Rather they thought they could hop across the Indian Ocean and treat us as they did the locals back in their part of the world. BIG mistake - HUGE!

Not a single person was ever fooled by the garbage they put in the press or in their PR dream sheets. For chrissake, go to www.arid.com.au and have a look at the amateurish work done by that lot.

I agree perhaps not be complacent but at least take some comfort now that we have support from the highest possible levels of government.

Wiz,
Don't see on what basis they could or would mount a challange. Take out a lease, honor and conduct your business within the provisions of the lease. Pretty simple really.

They (Ascot) never had a mandate to relocate the airport. It was something dreamt up by them. But as this is a "rumour" network I'll throw a bit of dieso on the fire. A source informed me that someone previously from JAH was paid 7 figures to broker the deal for Ascot and allegedly informed them at the time the land would be available for re-development. So much for due diligence on their part. Bet the shareholders will be asking some questions at the next meeting.
