Laikim Lillik Susu;

A No4 in 7.62 will do it better....
I would dispute this Sir as a good Omark 44 would have a far better trigger pull than the No 4. Unless of course, you have taken to the No4's trigger with an oilstone (very carefully) like the previous owner of one of my No 5 Jungle Carbines did.
And you can load the ammo for the Omark up more as well.
Now, what was this thread about again.....?

you're born. Once when
you've looked death in the face.

Well, I'm very happy with the current job but have on order a Barnard action with a Trueflite barrel and a Phil Mastin stock, just taking a bit of time to arrive!

MkVIII 17th Oct 2004 23:33

Now guys, staying OFF topic....

I agree somewhat with LLS regarding a well tuned No4, but, I am a SMLE man personally!

Never been a big fan of No4's (have a truly mint Savage No4 Mk I*, and a MINT MINT MINT No5), but my current "range" job is a genuine Lithgow SMLE III* HT sniper rifle. Not as accurate as some of the wizz-bang accurised things, but 2 inch groups at 300 yards with greek surplus or MF 54 is doing ok in my books! Plus I can enter it in SSAA military as well.

I don't mind the Omark, but you can't use it much besides what it was made for. Heavy as all snot, it doesn't make a great field rifle!

:p

DirtyPierre 18th Oct 2004 09:26

I once had a really good spud gun when I was 8, but now my super soaker pump action water cannon is much better fun.

What is it with you guys and guns, and what has it to do with this topic?

Or.....should you address the captain as "Captain" when they've got a gun on you.

Heatseeker 18th Oct 2004 12:30

Easy
you call him Captain when you've forgotten his F:mad: g name

Robroy, I don't know if that's the bloke or not. He's had a fair bit of publicity in the paper in Melbourne. I got the impression that he was an international airline pilot. His sign out the front of the motel has a 727 on it.

Oz Ocker 19th Oct 2004 00:14

Me little mate reckons ya can call 'im "Captain" any time ya like

Mr. Boeing,

I have checked the RACQ accommodation guide and the only motel I can find, is The Captains Cove, at Paynesville, which is East of Sale, but closer to Bairnsdale.

Could you be a little more specific, as to the location. If this is the same person, he, I believe is a fraud, was never a Capt. in PNG, passed himself off as one, worldwide, to my knowledge. was caught out in Japan. Lost track after he beat a hasty retreat from Japan.

One of the Woomeri seems to have some ting ting, so I will put a post into D & G , referring to this post on Questions, and see if The Woomeri, with arse grass and feathers can help, along with anyone ex PNG in the 60's and 70's.

Apinun,

Cheers,

:( I think that you will find that the person in question was commended by a Japanses airline for bringing a F27 back on one after a failure or fire.

A story that I got from another PNG character, Death Adder D... was that one day when enroute from Wewak to Vanimo at dot feet with head out the window, following the breakers in atrocious weather, with C.HD as the F/O.

After some time, Death Adder with some alarm, noticed that the DC3 ailerons were stiffening and quickly looking around, he saw C.HD had HIS window open and was flying his half of the aircraft along the breaker line! I am not sure if it was during the same flight that C.HD lost his cap out the window and demanded, to no avail, that the Captain turn the aircraft back to look for it!

Also remember seeing some really horrible skid marks at Goroka that after a few erratic turns, left the seal, into the grass and then back again. If I recall correctly, as a result, Jim P failed C.HD who was on his final F27 command checkride.

Snowyman 19th Oct 2004 16:47

Funny thing

Well, when you do a landing he or she is not extremely happy with and tells you to apologize it to the pax via the PA system. Then its better to do the following PA announcement: Ladies and Gentleman could I have your attention please, the Captain would like to apologize for the bad landing.

A friend of mine actually did the above PA announcement. Made the all mighty a bit grumby for the rest of the day;)

Why not,

There are so many TPNG stories, the large majority true.

Buncher, firing off his .38 to warn off some intruders, when he was based in the highlands, only to hit the lower part of his fresh water tank.

Malfunction, playing the piano, with about 6 unfinished beers across the top and a cigarette stuck on his ear.

Bill, on the trombone.

Why not, wantok,

A TPNG site, but where, Woomera, your choice.

Mr. Boeing 21st Oct 2004 11:29

The motel I'm referring to is about two kilometres from the centre of Sale on the western side. It's defintely called The Captains Lodge. Try doing a search in the Melbourne Herald Sun (possibly the Sunday one) as they have run a few stories on the motel.

bendover_please 25th Oct 2004 12:09

A captain should only addresses by title when and if they earn respect, though some must be afforded for the very fact that they have 4 gold bars on their shoulder. However, that said, if they demand someone call them captain, agree on the term that you call them captain d#@head, which should be most fitting. No one is that superior that another person has to always address them as captain.

Woomera 25th Oct 2004 21:57

I would prefer less derogatory specifics - we don't need any of those nice solicitor letters.

I'm sure enough information has been given for "those in the know" to identify who is being referred to.

You may open a PNG Bulls:mad:t thread in the GA Forum if you wish.

I didn't know Malfunction could play the piano. Bill's tallent was on the timphony (spelling??) - didn't know he could blow a horn!:}

Mr Boeing, et al,

Captain Frank Staberhofer, of the 'Captain's Lodge' motel in Sale, Victoria died of cancer two weeks ago.

Six people attended the funeral.

'The Captain', as he was known in Sale, was apparently of Austrian origins and has been running his motel on the Princes Highway in Wurruk, arguably part of Sale, for the last twenty or so years. He made the front page of the Sunday Herald Sun a few years back with a story about being treated unfairly by the locals, though little mention was made of how he treated the locals, or indeed guests in his motel. He created a stir in local gossip circles a few years back also, when, upon deciding that not enough people were addressing him as 'Captain', to change his name by Deed Poll from Frank to Captain.
His motel has a website, though the photo is misleading in that it shows two cars in the carpark, and in the twenty years I have known the place, the most I have ever seen there at any one time is one.
