Aircraft Performance Categories
Can anyone please help me...
I have a list of 53 aircfraft for which I am trying to find out Performance Categories for. They range from a C172 to a A340-600. We use these aircraft in our simulator and the only way I seem able to determine the categories of the aircraft is by asking operators. Surely someone has a list somewhere?? Andy :D |
Howdy ATCOAndy, Which Performance Categories in respect to the Q are you after, IFR cat's, ie a,b etc, IFR CAT I, II, or weight cat's?
|
Performance Categories
I'm referring to the IFR Categories: A, B, C, D, E and H.
I know the AIP reference, but this still doesn't help me, as I don't the performance speeds of so many different aircraft. |
This won't be very helpful but different Australian operators operate the same types in different catagories.
|
This probably won't help either but there are no more civil Cat E aircraft, since the retirement of the Concorde. There is a new performance category on the horizon - currently referred to as DL (for Cat D - Large). The only aeroplane currently slated to be in this category is the Airbus A380.

Why not publish the list here, then pilots that fly those types can tell you?
Frinstance BAe146 and Avro RJ = Cat C Cessna 400 series = Cat B Fairchild SA227DC Metro 23 = Cat B |
Aircraft Performace Categories - the grand list
As suggested... here is the list of aircraft I'm seeking performace categories for...
Airbus A300-200 Airbus A300-600 Airbus A340-200 Airbus A340-300 Airbus A340-500 Airbus A340-600 Piper Aerostar Israeli Aircraft Industries Astra Raytheon Beechcraft King Air 350 British Aerospace BAe-146-100 British Aerospace BAe-146-300 Boeing 707-300 Boeing 737-300 Boeing 737-400 Boeing 737-700 Boeing 737-800 Boeing 747-400 Boeing 767-200 Boeing 767-300 Boeing 767-400 Boeing 777-300 Beechcraft King Air 200 Beechcraft Baron 58 Cessna 172 Skyhawk Cessna 210 Centurion Cessna 402 Cessna 404 Titan Cessna 414 Chancellor Cessna 421 Golden Eagle Cessna 441 Conquest Cessna Citation 1 Cessna Citation 2 / Bravo McDonnell Douglas DC-10 DeHavilland Canada DHC-8-100 Dash 8 Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirante Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia Fokker F-27 Friendship Fokker F-50 Grumman Turbo Mallard Boeing Chinook Bombardier Learjet 35 Bombardier Learjet 55 Piper P28A Warrior / Cherokee Piper Cherokee Lance Piper Navajo / Chieftan Piper Cherokee Six / Saratoga Piper Malibu Pilatus PC-6T Turbo Porter Sikorsky S-76 Saab 340 Beechcraft Starship 2000 Fairchild Merlin Fairchild Metro Israeli Aircraft Industries Westwind Thanks to those who have responded to my post. Most interesting the DL category. Please excuse some of the naming, this is for alternate reasons. Andy |
Cat A
C172/ 182/ 210, Piper Warrior/ Lance/ Saratogoa/ Cherokee 6 Cat B Aerostar, B58, King Air 200/350, 400 series Cessnas, Piper Navajo/ Chieftain Cat C I think, but not sure, all 737s and 767-200. Cat D B767-300/400, B747-400 Not sure about any of the Airbus types. I'm sure someone will tell me I'm wrong but I hope this helps. As a very rough guide for what you're looking for most piston singles will fall in Category A, turbine singles/ piston twins/ light turboprops - Category B, heavy turboprops and light jets up to 737 sort of size - Cat C and heavy jets ie. anything else - Cat D. |
Not sure of A300 but A340/330 is Cat D.

Fairchild SA227DC Metro 23 = Cat B This won't be very helpful but different Australian operators operate the same types in different catagories. Kendell used to have them in CAT B, and the SAAB340 was also in CAT B, but was in CAT C when One Engine Inoperative. Whilst CAT C is, generally more restrictive (can't descend as low as a catA/B A/C) the Metro, for example, handles a lot better at the higher speed in the approach. And CAT-H is, of course, Helo's. |
