Exclamation Curtis Aviation Airtourer Crash

It seems that VH-MVP has crashed into a house at Camden, killing the female pilot.
The aircraft is registered to the son of the Curtis Aviation owner, a man of AFTS fame.

Woman dies in light plane crash

15Aug03

A YOUNG woman was killed when a light plane crashed short of a runway in south-western Sydney today.

An ambulance spokesman said the woman was the sole occupant of the plan.
Two others were taken to Camden Hospital suffering from shock.

A witness named David told Sydney radio 2GB the plane crashed about a kilometre short of a runway at Camden airport and had missed hitting a house by about four metres.

"People here said the motor actually cut out and it crashed into the front yard of this house," he said.

"It is about a kilometre short of the runway and has also stopped short of a power line which would have meant the plane would have gone into flame."

NSW Fire Brisgade spokesman Ian Krimmer said crews were attending the crash site at Ellis Lane, Camden.

This report appears on news.com.au.

Unhappy

Having sold our own Victa Airtourer recently, both my partner and myself are deeply saddened to hear this tragedy has occurred.

As an Airtourer Association member, I offer our sincerest condolences to the family of the pilot killed

The news footage appears to have the Aircraft resting against a tree with the nose embedded in the ground and the eppenage buckled over the top.
A terrible accident.

a tragedy to hear about the womans death, does anyone know which runway was active???
I remember the first time I flew in that aircraft, Ron Berry took me through its paces when VH-MVP lived in Wollongong with the South Coast Aero Club.
My thoughts are with the ladies family.

wessex19, Ellis Lane is just to the west of Camden Airport. If the accident was on departure as the media is reporting then either 24 or the grass strip was in use, alternatively, as now seems to be the case, the aircraft was trying to reach the runway after losing the engine during aerobatics, meaning it fell just short of runway 10 (wind was 100/10).
