MBA in Aviation Management at Murdoch Uni, Perth WA
Hi There,
I am considering taking the new MBA in Aviation Management course offered at Murdoch Uni in Perth in preparation for life after piloting (50++) by maybe taking up a management role with an Airline.
However I am curious as to the Airline's perception of such courses and if it is worth my investment of AUD$18,500.
Can anybody advise me?
Cheers

Good On You Ghosrider!...
I have nearly completed a MTech at Swinburne University
( Airline Transport Management). Like any course its tough as *******, and then seems to get easier and easier as confidence and the habit of studying comes around.
I didn't know Murdoch had a Masters program in Av, but it sounds good.
To give you an indication, the cost of a MTech at Swinburne is about 16K, so its quite similar. Newcastle, Griffith, UNSW and Uni of West Syd offer programs as well as u probably already know.
I chose Swinburne, after talking to the others Uni's. Like all things there were pro's and con's with all the uni's. The one that I seemed to fit with was obviously Swinburne.
I have already had 3 job offers doing a Masters. The reason for this is that like you, I am also a pilot and in a few years, a may have to consider other options.
The job offers that I have had, far absorb the cost of a Masters Program. Consider it an investment.
I have not taken up any offers and will stay put where I am, but a Masters together with your aviation discipline would leave your colleagues for dead, no question.
Good Luck.
My Kindest regards for you Ghosrider

Ghosrider - I just tried looking for information on this course after reading your post, couldn't find anything on their website. Is there anywhere else I can get info on this course, it sounds like just the thing I'm looking for

Hello Ruffus,
I stumbled across this course my accidient myself. Was at Murdoch enquiring on the MBA programs when I found out this was available. The intake this coming January will be the first intake. U can find more information at
http://wwwbusiness.murdoch.edu.au/co...s/aviation.pdf
From what I understand, this is basically a Masters of Business Administration with a mix of Aviation topics so U'll not only get what a general MBA offers but also get a mix of aviation law and current issues. It is ideal from a management / administration point of view. Moreover, I feel that the strong point of this MBA is the fact that it will still assist you if you do not wish to stay in the Industry but decide to venture out.
The downside may be that it's not focussed or specific enough. Plus it's a new course so there'll always be the question of credibility.
I'll PM you the person to get in touch with for more information.
Pickle Sandwich,
Thanks for the vote of confidence! Though I'm still a bit way off from 50++ I think I'd better get the academic qualifications out of the way while I'm still young and can study!
Thanks for the input!

I'd like to extend the topic slightly. I'm studying B.Tech(Air Transport Management)/B.Business, the undergrad version of what pickle sandwich is doing. Therefore I was wondering how the airlines view the undergrad courses as well as the postgrad courses being discussed. I'm particularly interested in the awareness within the industry of such courses and also the job prospects upon graduation.
