What happened to SF260 Marchetti??
Does anybody know what exactly happened to the Sydney-based SF260 I used to see operating out of Bankstown? Somebody mentioed it crashed but not sure of its whereabouts these days. Does anybody know the details?
That was a great looking aircraft
Thanks.

This aircraft crashed in 2000 during spinning, unable to recover before hitting ground. That will do it every time.
I last saw it outside Air AG hangar slightly crushed and very much the worse for wear in November 2000. No idea if it was ever subsequently repaired.

I was told by the owner it was an EFATO, possible fuel selector mismanagement, and subsequent less than desirable forced landing. I believe the aircraft was written off, and the pilot almost so. I was hoping to do my comm training (at the time of the accident) in that aircraft. A real shame, such a stunningly beautiful airplane.

Wow! 2 very different accounts of the demise of the Marchetti
Perhaps the aircraft that failed to recover from the spin was another aircraft because I doubt there would be much left of an aircraft in that situation. I'd lean towards the EFATO senario given that it was not damaged that extensively.
I did some further research and found the following info:
Operated by Sydney Aerobatic School Bankstown VH-ARV.
And from another web site "23 Sep 2000 accident, damaged; canx; 2003 rebuild nearly completed, FOR SALE"
Web site : Click here
Even further digging uncovered it's wherabouts. Almost ready for resale. Hopefully it will be bought by somebody that'll make it available for pvt hire

Gotta love the net!
