Jet Ranger VH-TMR
Who was the operator of the Bell 206B VH-TMR when it crashed into the sea at Norman Reef, Queensland on August 6th., 2000? I note that it was registered to a Barry Edward Jones who was apparently also the registered owner of a Hughes 500 VH-GEO which crashed September 5th., 2001. Same operator for the 2001 accident too?

G'day MrNosy,
Barry Jones did own TMR, but had it and TFH crosshired to Sunlover Helicopters in Cairns at the time. You should be able to find the accident report on the ATSB website (I think they did a report). GEO was lost from a tuna boat I believe, don't know any details, but it too was a very nice machine when owned in Tassie. Rats, I'll have to go through my logbook now and see how many others have bit the dust!!. Why the interest??
Cheers,
MPT

Thanks
For my sins, I research the accidents for the UK CAA's World Aircraft Accident Summary, which includes turbine helis. My question was prompted by reading the ATSB report re VH-TMR, which had a bit to say about the 'safety culture' at the operator. It described the operation as 'commercial' while the heli was registered to a private individual hence my question. I then noticed that our database already had Barry Jones on it (the H500 loss), which is unusual - individuals normally turn up only once!
Thanks once again for your help.
