Question about Townsville Skies at about 3.25am Monday
Does anyone have any information as to whether or not there were any happenings over Townsville, NQ at around 3.25am Monday the 19th of May?
I'm asking generally about space satellite movements/high altitude surveillance photographing/ stars moving across the galaxy and assuming new positons.
Any info is very much appreciated.

"They were at high altitude, I initially though at about 36000 feet."
"I figured they must have been travelling faster than 950 kms an hour, *perhaps* at the speed of sound, but definitely not faster than 1100kms an hour-no way)"
That's rather specific for an eyeball at 3.25am? How could you possibly judge altitude and speed at night?

By Comparison
I assumed altitude and speed generally as a comparison between when I have seen aircraft (B767 & B747) cruise overhead in the morning, around 0600 - 0700.
There were a couple of very faint lights and a flashing beacon, and as the distance between was generally comparable with where I know the lights to be on a 747, I could estimate the speed at which it was travelling.
Essentially it was just an issue of comparing the speed I have seen widebody aircraft cruise at while directly overhead with the speed I saw this object travelling at.
I suppose by now you must be thinking
"Der, you saw a stinking passenger plane, fool!". That's what I thought, until I saw the lights ACTUALLY hover for about 2 minutes.
I went back under the tree to finish my cig, and afterwards couldn't see a trace of the object in the sky.

I just received word from my intergalatic friends that they were in the area at that time on their way home.
The captain of the craft decided it would be good for morale if all the boys spent abit of time together at a local strip club before they left.
After hovering above Townsville for a few seconds, scanning the directory, they came to the conclusion that Townsville was abit of a dive and decided on returning back to mothership base for a few stella's and an all nighter.

Lol Indeed Cruise :)
Cruise,
Maybe that is why they were hovering around Garbutt (north of the city) and then sped off when they discovered a certain business had closed for the night? hehehehehe
Anyhow, I don't think this biz in question would accept martian miles.
SixStar (no pun intended)

SixStarAnsett.
Trying to judge an accurate speed and height at night by a couple of lights and a pair of eyeballs is nigh near impossible. I don't doubt you saw what you saw. The way your mind put it together to assume an answer might be a different matter.
I was flying low level one night near a major airport, talking with approach and I saw three lights in an order that made sense, a red and a green with a flashing light in between. The lights turned towards me at my level and the space between them became larger and there was no gain in altitude. I thought for quite some time I was in for a head on. It took me a while to realise there were three separate aircraft all going their own way.
Not saying this happened to you, but if you want to believe in top secret military aircraft, or UFOs, or coverups, or whatever else is implied, then go right ahead and fill your boots. Don't let me stop you.

Unless they've got a very long extension cord the folks at pine gap wouldn't be switching on lights down there.
Besides they've got enough to do without all that boys own crap.
Suggest you read one of the books by Prof Des Ball from ANU for an overview of pine gap, which will make you realise the nonsense of your suggestions.

Go to www.heavens-above.com
You enter your location (e.g. Townsville, Australia) and it will tell you when satellites of various magnitudes become visible, when they are brightest and when they will disappear. It includes exact times , direction and angle in the sky to look. Works to the second.
The site also will tell you when Iridium flares are visible during daylight hours (sun shines off of the Iridium Satellite and produces a point flash in the sky during daylight hours).
pretty sure the above link is right if not it's www.heavans-above.com
