Very good question but alas it must be a very hard industry.
Pete's in Darwin used to do very well but no longer here.
They used to do Alice weeks, Kununurru weeks, Gove & Groote but no more....

I was one of the last drop pilots in AS back in about 1998. VH-BQI was the wretched old bus, and Milton was the parachute dude who organised the events. It all fell apart when he got a job in NZ driving hot-air balloons and then it all got a bit too hard to get the 3 remaining parachutists in the one spot at one time to make it cost effective to do a drop. The plane was sold, and that was it. Then the Porter would drop in every ow and then to do tandems etc every 6 or so months, and that was that.
I really don't think there is enough interest in Alice for a parachute club, but then again with 27000 people, anything is possible with a bit of energy.

G'day Dubya,
In 99 when I was flying in Alice I saw an Orange painted 210 or 206 Flying. I think that was used for meatbombs. I think they used housepaint and a roller. Was that one of your old planes.

That old orange thing was a 4 seat C210 with struts. It had a lot of problems with the gear doors not going up after retraction, and would fly around with them dangling looking like fins. It was parked at the old 7 mile areodrome with the meatbomb c182. Mind you the c182 wasn't mainitained any better. The meatbombers would drill holes in the door frame to rig up a canvas door so it wouldn't get so drafty. The engineers would remove it all and bog it up, and then the meatbombers would.... you know how it goes. Ah I'm so glad I don't have to do that anymore. When I get p!ssed of with my current job, I think back to those days....and realise how good I've got it now.
Did you work in Alice? Who for.

I was told the orange 210 was bent from hitting some sapplings on landing. I flew for Alice Springs Air Charter untill they closed down. I used to go over to Tony's hangar and see the boys working on the 210. How about you ?

Sedgie,
I'd love to send you a PM, but you've disabled it.
I worked with the Aero Club, in the late 90's, in the era of CN (the dentist and footy umpire), TR (the angry Croatian), BG (the waste of space CFI), Brownie, Hoops, Hawkeye, and I'm sure others.
Yeah, I don't know anything of the mishap with the 210. It must have happened after I left Alice. The guy that owned it, Scooter, is he still around ??
