Piaggio VH-GOA

I have established that this Pig was delivered to Mandated Airlines in 1961 painted all white with just the Australian registration on the tail. After delivery it was apparently painted with the Mandated winged "M" emblem on the nose. Does anyone have a photo of this balus in these markings? Any leads much appreciated.

Cheers

Cool

BIK, I don't recall Pigs in PNG looking like I-PIAE.

Has the P-166DL-3 got turbine engines, possibly Allison B17's?

Angel

There's a pretty sad example languishing near the "rear entrance" to the Evil Empire", with HARS spray painted on the side.

They seriously aren't gonna waste their money restoring a PIG are they?

Ah now there's a thought to conjure with.

If dear old Cyril hadn't been so Brit/Eurocentric and listened to the Cessna/Piper sales guys a little closer and not dismissed the C402 and PA31-310 as "puddle jumper planes" the history of Oz aviation may well have been a whole lot different and I and Skywest wouldn't be here.

Well, I'll be darned! LTP 101's on a Pig!!!

I think most of the Pigs in Australia would be ex Mandated and Ansett in PNG? I remember them well in the 1960's.

The scrap on the way into the carpark looks like a big job for even a static display! Is it the one from the museum at Uralla? I thought it was fairly intact last time I drove through.
Incidentally VH-GOA is now the rego of a far more deserving aircraft ASH 25 based at Narromine!

Thanks to all who responded. Unfortunately, the desired photo has yet to emerge, if indeed it exists.

Cheers

My copies of the complete series of "Balus" books is in strorage in Cairns, so can't get at them for another few months. If anyone has them more readily available, I have an idea that a photo of the old VH-GOA might be in there.

I could be wrong about that coz there's been a lotta booze consumed since the last time I looked in those books.

Oz

"Balus" was the first place I looked but I couldn't find anything. There are plenty of photos around of GOA in later colour schemes but apparently none in the interim scheme.

Cheers
