Up until a couple of years ago, one was operating out of Bathurst NSW. According to a couple of Discovery channel aviation programs, the poor thing was voted ugliest production aircraft built.

One intial plan put to the military by Transavia was to have them as short field medivac aircraft with the poor old victim and his carer in the rear as well as for cheap low altitude surveillance.

I believe there's one for sale at NZAR - don't know which engine it has though. You can see it at Aeromotive, northern corner of the airfield.

Ah, Gaunty. Your vocabulary never fails to amaze.......

For those that missed the meaning of the word eponymic:

eponymic.
ep•o•nym
( p -n m ) n.
1. A person whose name is or is thought to be the source of the name of something, such as a city, country, or era. For example, Romulus is the eponym of Rome.
2. Medicine. A name of a drug, structure, or disease based on or derived from the name of a person.

[French éponyme, from Greek ep numos, named after : epi-, epi- + onoma, onuma, name; see n -men- in Indo-European Roots.]

What that has to do with an Airtruk, I'm yet to establish!

No one else seems to want to but I'll admit to flying one once. Amongst other things I used to maintain the aircraft refered to by Northern Chique. I was persuaded by the owner to take it aloft following an engine change one day.

I was too young to fly one - but was a fan of the Airtruk. What were your thoughts on flying the Airtruk?

As a 10 year old I wrote to Transvia and got a stack of information, photos etc , wish I'd kept them. There was pictures of the 'medevac' Airtruk suggested above
