As for CASA "pulling" a licence issued on the basis of a foreign ATPL after someone fails an Oz ATPL subject, well just think about the logic or lack thereof. The AAT would have a field day. I doubt CASA or ASL would give a toss.
BUT... he did his US atpl, then converted to OZ. Went for a VB interview and was told he could have a job IF he went and passed the remaining 3 subjects. Rang CASA... was told, yes you can sit them, but if you FAIL, then your Oz ATPL will be revoked!
fortunately he didn't fail!
