NZ ATPL Ground School

Would any of our well-informed Kiwi contributors be able to advise me of where I can do a full-time course covering all the NZ ATPL subjects.

Any comments as to the effectiveness or success of particular organisations (fair comments only please) would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Fark -

NZ ATPL courses

Without having researched this, Nelson Aviation College used to run specific courses, but it along with Massey, Ardmore etc may now be stuck with the rigidities of tertiary student loan funded courses and don't / can't offer specific ATPL courses. I gather PPSC is the only option for all the subjects.

There is a guy in AKL who has been running the Nav and Flightplanning courses on the AFS premisis at Ardmore however they were run independant of the school itself.

Other than that PPSC would be your next best bet or simuflight might be able to help you out by way of thier computer based training.

Simuflight

I did mine at Simuflight, Ardmore (3 yrs ago)....the cheapest I could find at the time too.
Knocked them all off in 3 weeks.
Credit for that goes wholey to the young lass (C cat instructor) who put up with all my questions.
Sadly she has moved on - but if you get someone equally motivated....theyre a good bet.

The Aviation college in Mot doesnt have specific courses, It does offer them as part of the student loan, its get the ppsc notes & then if ya have probs ask. But as far as im aware no one has more than Human factors over there.

I did mine by PPSC & there used to be a guy in Air Nelson that taught Flight Planning, not sure if he still does or where he is, was a few years ago I did it sorry.

ATPL taught subjects are the one thing that NZ lacks. A complete school that takes you through the complete ATPL range is what is needed.

Yes the guy from Air Nelson is still doing his bit. Pete Sumner is his name. Bloody good course. Flight Planning & Navigation.

Landon Ruehe (sp?) from Airwork has systems and perfromance, nav aids. Check out

Chris from Eagle has Met on a CD.

As for the rest, Law is self study. And it the luck of the Gods with Human Factors.

Hope this helps

ATPL Human Factors

The best ATPL HF option used to be the two day (week-end) Simuflight course for those who hold a CPL HF credit. An interesting two days with people like Bob Henderson from ANZ. Don't know if they still run them though.

Talking

As far as the ATPL Law is concerned there is one guy who teaches it on a contract basis for Air NZ Pilots and does sell notes and sample questions. He has all the current exam Questions and even I managed to Get 92 %.

He Also works at Airwork, and I think you can get hold of his stuff thru the guy aboves website.

He charges about $160 but it is still less than the price of a resit which is what you will be doing if you don't have his stuff.
