hiring cycle in NT

G'day,
Is there a pattern to hiring in the NT, ie heaps just before the wet and not much at the moment or is it possible to get work at any time....if you're there etc.

cjam get your face known during the wet. Some pilots don't come back from holidays over xmas and then suddenly their might be a position at the end of the wet. If the companies know you already it'll be an advantage as opposed to the guys that have just made their way up to get on the dry season "hiring" wave.

Same goes for kunnas let em know who you are during the wet.

Don't base all your hopes in one place, have your fingers in many pies. There is no set script: you might get a job offer from a place you least expect it from. I.e. you are in Darwin and someone calls you from Tassie. Its always the way.

Good luck.

Also if I may:

Be humble, listen to the guys that have been working and living there for a while and NOT those that are looking for a job. Reason? Competition - they might try to put you off to eliminate you. It can be cut throat.

Get to know the lads but don't be pushey. And above all show that you are keen and down to earth. This might include getting a regular job that will show that you are more motivated than those on the dole waiting for a seat. People take note of this stuff.

It WILL happen - believe in yourself.

Good luck.

Mr. Hat.

To the guys in the industry in Darwin and Arhnem, have your companies been hiring? How many people would have been put on in your company during the past three to six months? What sort of experience did they have?

Any info would be great.

Cheers

G’day strewth

In the company I work for we’ve only put on one person in the last three months, they had 400 hours and knew a lot of people in the company. The one before that was a year ago. Although I would envisage maybe two people will be put on over the course of the dry. Another company I know of has put on three people in the last six months but they all had 1000+ hours.

The dry is generally the busier time out of Darwin, which means more hiring. But the more senior guys can leave to bigger and better things at anytime of the year and those spots need to be filled. The best thing you can do is keep hassling and try and meet guys who are working up here!

In the mean time, enjoy ‘the other wet’, the backpackers are streaming in as we speak!!

Regards
