GA in the South Pacific Islands - help!

Im completing my PPL at the moment in New Zealand, and on my way home to Europe I plan to spend some time on one or two of the South Pacific Islands ... not sure which ones yet, but thinking along the lines of Rarotonga, Papeete, Fiji ...

Trouble is, I'd like to do a little flying in the pacific as well, or over it at least But can't find any sign of General aviation, aero clubs, aircraft hire etc. anywhere on the net.

Any contributors here recommend someplace for me that is both nice to visit and also might let me spend 1/2 hr in a 172 doing some scenic flying?

Thanks.

I was in Rarotonga nigh on 3 yrs ago and I think Air Raro had a 172 on training/charter duties. Maybe they'll let you have a fang in that - just be ready for the relaxed island customer service!

last time i passed through Fiji (nandi) there were several 172's available from the local flying school , the islands and atolls just off the coast are brilliant from the air .

also , the FJ$ and NZ$ are worth about the same ( i think )

I was aware of a C172 and a P68 in the Cooks (Raro) but unsure if they are available for personal/private hire.

direct flights from Nandi mean you can hop over to the Cook Islands quite cheaply and maybe do a bit of airbourne sightseeing in both places.

There's a flying school in Vanuatu and it's run by the same good bunch of blokes that run Bay Flight International (the former Bay of Plenty Flight Centre) in Tauranga.

I believe the flying up there is bloody expensive due to the import tax the Vanuatu govt charge on everything, but if you're interested then call their NZ school on 07 575 2747 and they should be able to give you the low down.
