Pilot survival good airmanship not luck!

A firebomber pilot survived a forced landing / crash in Victoria's high country last night. After dropping his load he applied power to climb out of the valley............................no sound heard from the engine. Realising he was going in, he decided to make a forced landing in the canopy rather than crash. After comming to rest the aircraft caught fire! He escaped with a lot of cuts and bruises. His comrades in arms on the ground got to him as the bushfire started by his aircraft began to close in. He was assisted to a clearing where he was winched by the air ambulance 412 to Albury. A very relieved pilot who clutched his flight helmet the whole way to hospital. The helmet sustained a huge impact which saved his scone!
Well Done.

I think you'll find Bazza got a broken leg , but glad he got out at all.

Latest info says no broken bones just bruising and scratches as you said SL.

What was the name of the pilot?

I'm hoping it's not one of the Foster's but the above post doesn't look good...

At least the pilot is OK

Wishing whoever it is a speedy recovery!

I think what I was trying to say, was that he made a concious decision to put the aircraft into the trees rather than let it happen without any of his own imput or control.
A very brave man I believe.

A pitty that was overlooked with some individuals concentrating on phrasology rather than the act!!!!!

Don't worry yourself

Ignore the pedantic and ignorant fools who post here at times.

The guy had seconds to act and to walk away from any prang in those circumstances deserves applause. Too often there are plenty who have little background all too prepared to offer their 'wisdom'

Years in PNG praying it never happened to me or my mates make you appreciate what he had to do.. and DID!

In days gone by these acts were accorded the resepect they were due. May they one day return!

Well done to the man!
