How to suceed in aviation
deckchair - yes quite possible but how much of the outback can the family put up with? Usually for a first twin job you have to be somewhere reasonably sh1tty(Normanton, Ngukkur, Port Hedland etc.) Either long periods of separation or the Puckuwhyte[unt community for the family can be quite trying. Age shouldn't be a problem for any of the Regionals or turboprop operators but I haven't been able to get an interview at any of them (applying for 1 year) so depending on hiring etc, be prepared to be stuck somewhere a long way from anywhere for a while. Things could be better once you get the hours you need though.

The fact is I may end up staying in GA but as said by others there are GA slots that pay well, have good equipment and most of all are are real challenge and can be really enjoyed, I may be aiming elswhere but I'm making damn certain I have a good time now
Aim high but enjoy travelling there too!!

The easiest way to succeed in aviation is to get out of it before you start trying to get in it. Or, success can be delayed by getting out as soon as possible thereafter starting. Yes, I am a positive person

Uncertainty, insecurity, instability, poverty......
The list goes on and on and on.........
But how could you consider doing anything else
What about the good stuff: Drinking, drinking and Drinking
then the next morning:
Love it !!!!
If you stick with it it will work out in the end !!!!!!

"Go and set up your own aviation business...."
That's terrible advice!!!
Over, for example, a ten year cycle the chances of survival are between "remote" and "zilch". Statistics confirm that undercapitalisation, bad debts, cut price operators ... or CASA ... are bound to put you out of business.
Over a double decade I'd be struggling to think of many/any GA or LCRPT operators that have survived. Over the same period, the sole airline survivor would be Qantas (and those in the Qantas camp.)
