Lancair crash

Having being involved in the completion of this remarkable experimental project, it can only be described as tragic, for both Rob and Doug, and for their families. What happened is now the question.

VH-CIV

It had a Walter turbo prop engine that really made it get up and go.

The machine was assembled at Essendon some three weeks back.

Lancair crash

The base aircraft was a Lancair IV, with a 700 HP walter turbo prop, similar to a PT6A-42.
The only construction, as such, at Essendon was the fitting of the wings after transport.

Had the chance to meet both the guys few months ago on an occasional trip towards Melbourne. I was lucky to get briefed on the aircraft at his house. Great guys.

Condolences to all involved.
