IR Training Approval
If you have previously held 217 C&T approvals to conduct IR renewals etc but don't hold a GR1 instructor rating (GR3) - What would be involved in getting IR training approval for a GR3 rating?

If you conducted IR renewals you must have been a ATO. Have a talk to CASA, they might give you IR training approval. Otherwise do a pre rating test, get recommended and then do the test with an ATO. Perhaps for your next G3 renewal.

CASA can give you approval to conduct IR even without a instructor rating. Have a read of CAR 5.20. Then apply to the local CASA office for approval under CAR 5.20 to conduct IR training.

I have held, until very recently (and with respect to that company still do probably) IR renewal/initial issue (upgrades from copilot to command).
My GR3 lapsed in 1987, however the approval was issued as part of my CP/C&T approvals and was granted after watching me conduct a renewal on a company pilot.
