VA7 baggage conditions

I’m travelling on a VA7 flight to Doha soon.

I have been advised I can not take a firearm on this flight as checked luggage.

I’m confused why this would be the case when virgin flights are allowed and Qatar flights are allowed!

If I had booked this through Qatar website I’d be allowed I believe.

If anyone has an insight on this situation I’d be greatly appreciative

The Virgin Australia website states, in relation to firearms and ammunition:

“Not permitted on flights to, from and through Doha, Qatar.”

It must have something to do with the partnership agreement between the two airlines*, because Qatar does allow the carriage of firearms in checked baggage on its own flights, with prior approval. It seems the only way around the restriction is to book directly with Qatar.

*Actually, Qatar's conditions for the carriage of firearms say "Ticket issued only on Qatar Airways marketed and operated flights." That would preclude the Virgin flights.

In these troubled times anyone flying with a firearm (checked or unchecked) can expect nothing but hassle - and possible arrest - whatever the rules say

There has been cases where untrained staff especially at checkin raise an alarm when they shouldn’t have, has been a few issues in the US and Europe in prior times.

Qatar would be well experienced with transferring such goods, especially if one is going to Africa.
