Flying into Avalon airshow
It’s been a while - clearly - as I didn’t know that Avalon East no longer exists.
Anyone with recent experience arriving VFR before and departing after - especially on the Sunday? Is it a complete cluster or not too bad? Parking ok or miles away in a stony dust bowl?
Oh - and I assume I need an ASIC (especially after the shenanigans a few weeks ago?).
thanks

I recall last time round it took an average 4/5 hours for people to get in from the Westgate.
I’m not sure sending the crowds to some outer paddocks to park and bus them in will ease the congestion. Point Wilson is still one road in and one road out. Let’s see if any protesters cause any havoc also, seems like something is brewing. Will be interesting to see how secure access to the runway is, often it’s just a small fence.

Thanks all - i read the SUP on a phone which talks about vfr arrivals and departures but missed the approval requirements.
Stupid state of affairs - not welcoming actual pilots in actual airplanes. Not sure I can be bothered now

And $65 to park your vehicle in a prime piece of clapped out Buffalo country? They can stick their airshow where the sun doesn’t shine.

Our historic aviation group has had a presence at Avalon since 2013. There was a noticeable decline in the organisers' interest and support over the last few shows, and the last straw for us this time was the Lethbridge accommodation set-up (we used to camp at Lara, now prohibited), and nowhere to park our historic aircraft near the exhibition space we were offered.
Bye Bye Avalon, we had good times. We'll come back if we ever need to buy five Airbuses.

Yup. Once I found out that you could no longer fly into Avalon East (I was still annoyed at that point at not being allowed to fly into YMAV main) I figured that was pretty much it for me regards going to airshow. I think I’ve only been once in the last 10 or 12 years anyway, so probably not such a big deal. But not being able to fly into the country’s biggest (supposedly) airshow? Dumb. Imagine not being able to operate into Oshkosh! Different style of event, I know.

If you want to attend a real Airshow, you'll need to wait for Tyabb or East Sale or Temora or..

Or Oshkosh.
$1,600 for the plane ride, a bus ride to the show, camp for next to nothing, and sub $200 entry for the week and free for kids. You’ll meet the most enthusiastic bunch of aviators to exist, potentially forming life-long friendships, you’ll learn how to build an aircraft, you’ll see amazing displays that you’ll never see here (I note Paul Bennett is performing there this year) and you’ll have a great time plus you won’t see display halls full of guided missiles and helicopters that not even the military can’t afford.
If you have a product to sell, even better, join other Australian companies showcasing their products and development there, most of whom you won’t even see at Avalon.
