Flyover MEL - 23/11
Hi All,
Did anyone else see the 4 A/C flyover above the North Eastern suburbs at approx 3.30pm?
1 of the A/C was a V-Tail Bonanza (I think) - not sure on the rest.
Not something you see every day - anyone know the background?
Cheers

It was part of the Celebration of Life for our esteemed member Dr. Ron Dickinson, a remarkable man who enjoyed a full life; from a pilot in WW2 with the RAAF, to post-war studying Medicine and becoming firstly a family GP then a specialist Dermatologist.
A man of many skills, a pilot for nearly 80 years, a respected medico, man of the land, devoted husband, father and grandfather as well as one of life’s true gentlemen. Ron liked nothing better than to have a chat and share one of his many stories, preferably over a red!!
Ron and his dear wife Aylsa were fixtures on many of our FlyAways in his trusty Beechcraft Bonanza; however, with Alysa passing away last year, the family believes Ron has gone on his last flight to join her. His Bonanza Society members honoured him with a 4-aircraft flyover in a fitting tribute to an “Aviator”. Vale Ron, missed but not forgotten.
From International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians.
On a personal note a couple of years ago Ron, aged about 90 asked me about the entry in Launceston. I took the opportunity to advise tower of his arrival by phone. He told me later that they were the nicest tower he had ever spoken to, they looked after him with his clearance and gave it to him before he even asked for it and after they had directed him to a good parking spot they asked if he had ever been here before. His reply was that he had been here before in 1942, but that was flying a Tiger Moth in the RAAF. It also indicates the great and friendly service from Launy Tower. Ron was a lovely man and a friend to all.

Thanks Flywatcher - that certainly explains it!
Bit of detail there - always nice to hear the good people in the industry getting acknowledged (even if it is at their funeral............)

Thanks for that info, Flywatcher. Was down at Long Island Point when this baron flew over...didn't think much of it till I also heard then saw another three fast singles chasing the twin. Out of Tyabb, formed up on downwind in disappeared. Not a good day for it, low ceiling but good to see it was for a good cause.
