Garmin GTX 335
Hey Folks, just after some feedback on the costs people are incurring with the install of a new GTX 335. With the Government offering a 50% rebate it looks to be not a bad deal. Also what wait times are you being told. Looking to upgrade the Tomahawk : )
Thanks
Thanks
Make sure it’s optioned with the GPS and if not purchased with an encoder, check to make sure that it’s compatible with your existing encoder.
You’ll be up for a mounting tray and some wiring here and there, plus fitting and certification.
I would expect to walk away after forking out $7.5-$8k. IF your application is approved, the 50% off would be handy.
You may not need it however the base unit isn’t certified for IFR. You’ll need to spend thousands more to appear on the ATC screen like IFR aircraft. My understanding is that you will appear in a different colour/icon as you’d be uncertified.
If you’re in a metro area primarily, the ATC folk won’t see your ADSB as primary and will see your mode S, so in some ways it feels more cost effective to buy a SkyEcho as it gives you ADSB-IN as well for only $900 !

Mick, I would look at the purchase and installation price prior to this bull**** subsidy, then have a look at the purchase and installation price a couple months down the track. Yet again the stupidity of government 'subsidies.' Magically the prices will increase by about what? You'll pay the same if not more if you don't get in quick.
