Cessna crash Hunter Valley

Developing news. Single occupant Cessna down at a private air strip, near Luskintyre Airfield, a private aerodrome northwest of Maitland. Pilot reported to have severe burns.

ASN says it’s a Mooney, ABC says the pilot is in his 40’s
Hoping he’s ok

The footage Nine News had was a white aircraft with a grey stripe/maroon outline and rego was below it (which is hard to make out looks like a VH-G/O/U or something)

To be fact checked obviously, but the same report claimed it was on fire before impact.

Very experienced pilot at the helm, ex RAAF. Fingers crossed by all he pulls through.

ATSB have opened a file on this one: https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications...r/ao-2022-049/

I notice Newcastle Herald have updated the original article: How could anyone confuse a Mooney with a Cessna?!?

If it has a propeller it's a Cessna to most people outside aviation.

Well, you have to give the media credit, it's a step up from the Piper Cub that used to prevail. The best I recall was a Florida paper many moons ago that cited "four engine Cessna with 40 passengers", a Twin Otter commuter with a load of pax actually. BTW there was a four engine Cessna, the 620.

It looks like a cross between a Heron and a Bandierante.
