Cessnock Not Avail...for 6 MONTHS?!?

I was just talking to the local refueller up here and he asked the question "Did you hear about Cessnock?"
Says I, (thinking someone's landed gear up or something..) "Nope, what happened?"
"Closed until August, they reckon! They were going to patch the runway, dug a hole, water's got under it and now she's stuffffeeeeddd!"

Now, the NOTAM only goes out until May 25 "EST...", but that's still a heck of a long time for an unplanned closure, even though they were going to have a shutdown from 1-10 Feb and a longer one in April as part of the airport upgrade...And from that website we have this pearler: "Council and the contractor will work closely with key stakeholders to resolve any issues and minimise disruptions with these shutdown periods."

I'd be pi$$ed if I was based there...

Why not mark the parallel taxiway(or part of it) as a temporary runway? Some aerodromes would consider a 10 metre wide sealed centre strip a luxury.

Probably because they are doing more than just the runway. New taxiway and also altering access to fuel bowser and the council would find it too hard to make a taxiway a temporary runway.
