C130 Fire Bomber Perth

I see the Coulson C130 transitting back to Busselton after bombing in the Perth hills (~25 minute transit each way). I would have thought operating out of Perth or even Pearce would be better.

What's involved in refilling the C130 (apart from a lot of water)?

Is special equipment needed?

Hi Cap'n,
I heard on de radio that the 'reloading' gear - the mixing with retardant gear, the retardant, pumps etc. is all in BLN. and that for the time being, it seems 'tis more 'convenient' (?) rather than truck it to YPPH.
YPPH cannot be 'that' busy these days that they cannot organise a few slots for the Herc.....
(One would think...)

RWY Works at Pearce (?) Dunno, just speculatin'......

Talk on de radio also about an additional 'heavy' arriving from the 'East' later today / this evening.
Type unknown.

Cheers

Thanks Griffo. If the 737 goes to Busso too, us ratepayers will be rich with the landing fees!

Devil

YOU is now 'rich'.....but.....ya gunna need ya ear plugs if ya wanna 'sleepin'..........

Would a mob like Busso really charge an 'EMERGENCY SERVICE' landing fees?
'Angel Flight' used to have 'waived' landing charges......

'Tis a temptation though I might venture.
Lemme see now, an airport built largely with WA Taxpayers money and some Fed money and then some Ratepayers money.....
Isn't that just 'US' paying it out to 'them', some of whom may be 'US' anyway..?

I think the old hercky bird will stir up their kidneys so much they'll enjoy the quickly disappearing jet. Besides, they've had plenty of Fokker noise by now...

I think I recall that half of one of the recent budgets went on the airport!

Pearce is too close to the fire area to be an operating base.

Pearce is closed to large aircraft due to runway works, Perth apparently won't provide priority service to firefighting aircraft, and setting up the equiptment there would be a nightmare.

Busselton is also more central for South Western fires which is a higher risk than local fires (harder to access, less crews, etc).

Thats an odd reason, recall operating from fire bases that were literally in the middle of the fire at times.

Re ' Perth apparently won't provide priority service to firefighting aircraft'......#12......

IS THIS TRUE????????????????????????????
OK. I understand only tooo well that the 'Perth International Airport' is now LEASED by a 'Private' consortium, but.....does that give it the RIGHT to IGNORE the 'NATIONAL INTERTEST'??

The 'National Interest' being the welfare of the MANY MANY WA Residents / TAXPAYERS who pay the FED GOVT 'LOTSA' G.S.T. AND INCOME TAX ??

So, where are the "FEDS" when this sort of caper is on the cards??

Unfortunately, MY 'LOCAL' Fed Member is on the 'wrong side'....due to a very convenient 're-distribution' of boundaries....
BUT , I reckon I am still going to give it to him - even though I know 'Scomo' is 'in the chair'.......

NO CHEERS HERE.....NOPE....NONE AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

C'Mon ...ANY "FEDS" who reads these pages want to reply???? ANYBODY ??????????????????????????????????

Not if you saw the smoke and visibility. Moot anyway, as Na Fenn said.
