50 years on.

Yesterday, was 50th anniversary of the mid air collision between an Air Ambulance aircraft and a Helicopter on 19 October 1970 over the Moorabbin town hall or thereabouts. This was only 4 days after the Westgate bridge collapsed. The Beechcraft Twin Bonanza, VH RCN and Bell chopper, VH BLM were both inbound to Moorabbin in marginal VMC conditions. All on board were killed, 5 total, including the pilots, one of whom was a good friend of mine. RIP all.

Thanks for the history deja vu. I'd never heard of this accident.

Yes I lived in Moorabbin at the time and remember it well, not sure where the mid air took place but most of the wreckage was around Wickham Road and Nepean Highway area I believe. It was a sobering event for a student pilot at the time and an event I described to my students over the years.

.
Fairly certain the Moorabbin Town hall front steps was mentioned. I seem to recall a lady was washing dishes in her kitchen when a prop came through the roof in front of her. [may not be entirely factual]
