Tuncurry-Foster airstrip

I recall landing on an airstrip at Tuncurry years ago. I was almost on the beach. Now the only airstrip there is on the island.
The strip that I landed on is no longer on charts. It would appear to have been where the now cara park is.
What happened to that airstrip? Who operated from it? When was it closed? Was it sealed or just gravel?

The history has been discussed previously.

When the Wallis Island strip was involved in a scheduled operation, years ago, there was a restriction on aerodromes, as I recall, within 10nm of a procedure location so the township strip was binned. Probably made the day for the local real estate folk but was a pain for the flying fraternity as the island is a right mongrel to get to. The old strip, if I recall correctly, was somewhere adjacent to the golf course which can be seen north of Wallis Island.
