Vortex Air Caravans

Are Vortex still operating their Cessna Caravans?

I noticed one is operating out of Broome last week.

POV still lists Vortex as the registered operator. They could have been on a tour in Broome?

The activity log shows it slowly making its way to the northwest over the last fortnight.

Or it could be that the owner took it for a jolly with his girlfriend - seriously, dudes, Who The Foxtrot cares? If they scored a major cross-country charter, or if the owner is on a jaunt with their mates, good luck to them, I say. Should be more of it - either way.

Disclaimer - not an employee of Vortex, nor an owner.

Yes that was theirs VH-IOV, note this is not the same caravan registered VH-IOV that has recently started flying around Queensland and New South Wales. It will be interesting to see if their other caravan VH-POV returns south or not, as the owner of the aircraft has changed, something that hasn't happened in previous winters of operating over there.

They sold both of their Caravan's in order to purchase a B1900. It also looks like they recently sent a Chieftain of theirs over to Perth that they've been trying to sell for a long time.

Yes thought they did, interesting to hear about the 1900. Do you have any more info on that? When's it due, etc? Did notice that, not sure if it has been sold to an operator over there or not. They've also sold their Bell Baron. Does anybody know if they're still operating out of Wynyard? I noticed that there last flight here was nearly 2 weeks ago, instead they've been utilising Devonport. It all looked really quite up the tasfast end with no trucks or anything and that was about a week ago.

They were trying to complete training over with Ad Astral and purchase one of the 1900’s they were operating until the AOC was revoked. I’ve been told pilots have been sent to the US to complete type ratings and that they are looking at one in Florida. It seems to me like they don’t have the cash to purchase one hence why they are selling aircraft and essentially downsizing in the mean time. It’s an interesting time for them because it will likely be make or break, I feel it will be the latter. Operating it at Moorabbin will be a huge hurdle in itself!

They have indeed moved over to Devonport. Something to do with Devonport airport approaching them for business or something like that. Probably has the 1900 involved as well. Either way, good move I feel.

Hopefully Colin and Dave have a remarkable plan to get it all happening. It has the potential to be very successful.

Yes all starting to make a bit of sense now with the changes lately. Their website is currently going through a change. Says they're getting a face lift so I guess all will be revealed soon with what they plan. Be very interesting to see what they've got planned and how it goes for them, Rather interesting choice of aircraft for them aswell.

Oh I see, Noticed signs around the Tasfast shed at Wynyard that they've moved to Devonport. It's been quite different not hearing the old chieftains fly over my house late every night!

They have a Beechcraft 1900C is also coming from Montana, to be registered as VH-VAQ.

They also have a PC12 coming in 2019, a couple of crew have been in the USA completing training.

Vortex Air

They now have another Beechcraft 1900C registered VH-VSO completed its first flights under the Vortex name today. I believe VAQ is no longer in the fleet as it is no longer on the Australian register and has been stripped of tittles at Jandakot airport.
