Hunter Valley balloon hard landing

Hot air balloon company criticised by police for not calling triple-0 after crash that injured 9 - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

I know zip about balloons but the police say that despite 9 people injured, the operators didn't call any emergency services, and cleared the balloon away before the police arrived. Not a good look.

Well, here's a 'd h' question from a person who knows bugger-all about 'hot air balloons'....."

"The balloon had 24 passengers in the basket when it crashed."

Wot's the max number of bodies for a 'hot air balloon'...?

How is this number 'calculated'... ? Are the punters weighed?

Is it a function of weight vs size (volumetric capacity of Balloon)?
Most 'reasonable' assumption....

Is it a function of 'How big is the basket'?
Shades of our infamous C-209......

Is it a function of how many 'bods' turn up for the gig, with credit cards / pay cards at the ready..?
Sounds like some previous operators I have known....who have been known to fly the aforementioned '209'.......

Curious is all......

Cheers

and it was flying in heavy fog:

"Matt Scaife, the director of Balloon Aloft, which owns Balloon Safaris............... said the pilot made a decision to end the flight after 30 minutes due to poor visibility"
from:
https://www.theage.com.au/national/n...30-p4z72i.html

why would they fly in these conditions?

Folks,
Given the "law" around aircraft accidents, and their aftermath, the operators are going to have some explaining to do!!

It's not a big deal, every balloon landing is a crash landing. So they bumped heads this time... won't be the last time!

They packed up the crime scene? You mean they folded up the balloon so that it didn't get damaged...

Plod seems a bit peeved that he didn't get to drive thru town with his 'look at me' lights & sirens going. Beside what would their looking at a deflated balloon tell them.
