The killer of general aviation in Australia – CASA dishonesty re ADS-B
----- and rolling out Part 135 could make or break GA
A remarkably optimistic view, given the history so far.
I will go for "---- break GA" and bet you a six-pack of Coppers Vintage Ale that I am right, based on the last draft I saw.
Again, vast increases (if that is possible) in bureaucratic red tape, to produce "solutions" to non existent "safety problems", and naturally, a complete absence of any benefit/cost analysis of present and proposed impositions and restrictions.
Tootle pip!!
PS: Part 132 is an example of a whole new Part to address problems that did not exist, there is nothing of importance in Part 132 that was not already covered, far more simply, in existing regulation.
And with a bit of reading under the CASR's, (21.470), you could make the argument that as it is accepted by the FAA (in writing too!) that it is then permitted for use in Australia, notwithstanding the lack of compliance with CAO20.18.

Dick,
See if you can get CASA to nominate you for membership of the ICAO Surveillance and Separation Panel. It gets pretty tense in some of the working sessions and you could certainly add that sort of one liner to provide comic relief.

Following Dick's example and replacing chocolate with PPRuNe posts for my endorphin needs.

magazine Weekend Oz 17-18th. Article re Trawler fatalites.
Applies to Aviation as well..."Safety"...or Surveillance via ADSB ?
The Fishing industry was sold the "safety" benefits of the mandated VMS / Vessel Montitoring System.
Been used time and again re Zone infringemnts or close to.
When a trawler flips in bad seas and the signal ceases...no one is watching at night,
So NO SAR and no rescue ! Or very belated ... and of not much use to the already dead.
Marine industry should take a leaf from the aviation book and install 'Spider Tracks' (tm), "SeaSnail Tracs ? or similar where messages are instantaneous to a multitude of folk on cessation of signal, by text and email.
Whatever. It IS supposed to be all about 'safety'

Megan. Well said. But in practice what is the difference between the less expensive FAA approved unit and our super duper rolls Royce model?
How come it is ok in the USA? Is the air different?
