VH Experimental for PPL and CPL hours building?

For those in the know is it possible use VH Experimental for PPL and CPL hours building?
If given the choice of an old 60's built aircraft i.e piper or cessna, vs more modern experimental with CSU what would be the better option.
What limitations exist in the VH registered X class. Any info appreciated.

Perfectly acceptable, although as far as flying with an instructor for your CPL training goes I believe it can only be done if you are the owner of the aircraft, ie the experimental aircraft can't really be hired out.
