Prospective Canadian

Hi there,

I’m a 28 year old Canadian citizen flying a small twin turboprop for a small airline in Vancouver. I have 1000hrs total time and just got an upgrade, so should be obtaining my ATPL in another 6 months. I’ve visited Australia 7 times and am convinced I want to immigrate there given the opportunity.

I’ve looked into the licensing conversion and it seems pretty straightforward. My questions are regarding the employment opportunities for a Canadian.

What kind of a chance would I have with Qantas Link? Are there other carriers that would be a good bet? Is Australia experiencing the same crazy pilot shortage and hiring spree like Canada?

From what a gather, Pilot is not on the Skilled Occupation List. Would that mean I could only get a non-renewable work visa? I have some good opportunities with domestic carriers here, so I would I be throwing away a few years of seniority by only getting a temporary gig down under?

Would really appreciate any information from you guys!
Thank you.
