Young pilot rescues fair maiden from behind the Iron Curtain
Found this story today 16 September on Pprune Aviation History and Nostalgia forum.
Follow the story starting at Post 1. A young bloke learns to fly a Cessna 150 in order to fly under the Iron Curtain separating Western and Eastern Germany. He avoids getting shot down by flying as low as 50 feet to locate his girl friend who is hiding in a field for him waiting for him to land and pick her up and fly her to the West. It happened in 1960 and the couple are now in their Seventies when interviewed.
A beautiful true story with a happy ending. Watch their 10 minute interview in the link on Post No. 19. Although in German language, stay with it and watch their obvious fondness for each other and especially the photos that flash back in time when they were young. So touching and a must see.

One of the best stories I have read for a long time. Thank you Centaurus, it has brightened my day.

Maybe one is being too altruistic in hoping old accident reports could still be of interest and thus useful flight safety lessons for Australian pilots who happily enjoy a excellent safety record in their country
What an utterly fantastic story!
I agree with other posters, this would make a fantastic film!

Keep up the old stories Centaurus. You've seen and heard more than most and with the demise of the crash comics, people need a refresh and you write well. Don't be discouraged by the odd New Idea readers on here.
Hopefully this story will inspire a new generation of pilots to rescue fair maidens from the vice of alcohol at the local pub and escort them back to the sanctuary of their home.
