ASIC BS

OK a bit of a vent !!

Applied for a renewal of my ASIC. As some of you may know the system has changed since this August to include 3 levels of cited documents by an approved person.

So after jumping through all the hoops I was called back to supply further ID to verify my current address. When I asked who could certify these documents it seems JP's and Police aren't recognised.

You can pay Aust Post $40 to do this service. How the f**k is a random postal worker more powerful than a JP or police officer?

JP's exist for certifying documents!!! Surely we are being rorted here. This requires more identification than any other process I can think of !

ASIC is just a waste of cash. They had added extra processes on top that has no outcome on real world security !!

Who do I write to so that I can lodge my complaints ?

Sorry for the rant but I had to vent!!!

It's all about safety. How dare you suggest that it's "BS".

How much for an ASIC on eBay? Years after retirement (never held an ASIC by the way) received an ASIC in the mail. Only trouble was, it was for some bloke who I had never heard of. Returned to sender of course, but could I have made a killing?

Complain to your local federal MP.

Not all issuing bodies make you pay for document verification BTW.

Mate your frustrations are nothing new. The ASIC has been around for about 12years now. The latest tightening of the ID requirements are the result of an ANAO audit into the overall system and the vulnerability for fake IDs to be used.

How the f**k is a random postal worker more powerful than a JP or police officer?
Not a question of power, rather having better access to the resources to verify the different types of ID.

The issuing bodies certainly didn't ask for these changes and and are still struggling with the requirements. The ones that chose Australia Post to do the ID checks were slugged something in excess of $50k set up costs plus the individual cost to the applicant.

Depending on where you are there unfortunately isn't a lot of choice

I guess they have to fund the mind boggling salaries of Australia Post executives somehow. There are alternatives.

I certify ASIC and other documents for free and I am a lawyer. So not everybody is a rip off merchant.

Leady I must disagree with you. ASIC BS is apparently about security (the pantomime).
Aviation safety is a completely different matter entirely and you don't need an ASIC to fly safely.

So who will check the good quality fake ASIC ID card?

Show it to the camera at airports and gate opens!
The retard in the car sees a red card and drives on!
The discount at the coffee shop is the same!

Who has ever had there ASIC actually checked to a data base?

Yup quite a few individuals and organisations are agents of certain ASIC programs. Still limits those from remote regions though

My vent is the result of a 13 week wait for a re-issue. I'm down to calling daily for progress. Also I have completely gone around the agent as he is the cause of all the delays.

Not a question of power, rather having better access to the resources to verify the different types of ID.
I'm not sure how this works. The agent doesn't possess any special equipment to check if I have genuine ID's. He didn't scuritize the ID's or subject them to a test. Not even look at my photo and compared to my face. I have had better checks in airports , pubs and clubs.

I know a postal worker certainly wouldn't have time to do a detailed examination. A police office would have greater chance of picking up a fake ID.

In fact all the agent did was stamp copies and we both signed the documents which is exactly what a JP would have done without cost!

The application is already in with Auscheck well before my ID was provided. So I don't think your ID is checked as hard as some people would believe.

I have been told you can get an ASIC in Punchbowl for around fifty bucks.
That happened back in 2011's . About same time they realised that there was not central database for ASIC cards

Security fears as man charged with forgery

Face it , ASIC is a joke and scam

Don't bother renewing it. Put a vinyl sticker over the date with a new date on it. No one will even look close enough to check it. **** em! Really sick of this bs. Why doesn't the US and A have such a card? Because it is worthless and a waste of money that does NOTHING to enhance security. Why the F%ck are we taking the pineapple for it?

There are ways to spot fake documents very quickly without specialised equipment and indeed without the person realising you are doing it if you know what you are looking for. If the application is held up in Auscheck there's nothing the agent can do to hurry it up.

Clare they put into Auscheck after the 11th week . I may be an idiot but I have traveled enough to know what an ID check is , checking passport binding , watermarks , tampering.

He didn't check and spent most of his time making photocopies and making idle chat. Like most security guys he isn't Einstein

This is a hoop jumping exercise !!! Glad I don't have a criminal record or was born overseas.

11 weeks between submitting the form and going into Auscheck? You have every reason to rant!

Well sounds like you have reason to complain on two fronts.
1. The agent not doing a valid ID check and
2. 11 weeks from submission of the application until lodgement with AUSCHECK? Can you prove that? Because if true, that is totally unacceptable.

If you think the requirement to hold an ASIC is expensive BS. Try operating a security controlled airport or prescribed air service.

I just wanted to flag a little problem that is occurring with regard to the ID checking requirements.

Some people are applying for an ASIC say through Aviation ID Australia or CASA but then trying to go to a local Issuing Body to have their IDs checked. All IBs are independent of each other unless there is an agency agreement in place which means one IB cannot verify documents for another.

So whoever you apply for your ASIC through, make sure you check with them who can do the ID verification for you. In some cases it might be Australia Post - make sure you budget extra cash for that little service.

after 6...8 yrs of carrying / renewing, supplying the same ol documents every single time ( they won't recycle previous documents.....birth,passport, etc etc )
never ever been asked to "show / examine" my card, used many "security controlled" strips around the country, accessed by pin numbers through a gate.......but hey, walk 50m left or right and just step over a 900mm high fence, some fences just stop.
It's a joke..........have recently not renewed my card.
