Sadly another fatal accident not far from Australia involving an ex-Australian C-130.

And of course, judging by the photos.. On the day of the recovery of the smouldering remains, the WX was invariably benign.

Morning fog is very common in Wamena (reported to be the case here) and while most don't push it in, there have been some notable exceptions. In 2008 a BAe146 attempted a low level partial VMC circuit and ended up cresting a 500 ft hill on the opposite base leg. A handful of BAe ATPs and 737's in the interim have at least planted themselves on the runway.

So yeah, weather was a factor, though not the cause.
