Air New Zealand Jet over the Pacific

I am not sure if I am in the right area here but I am writing a book about my experiences of being in the airline industry, in NZL and also AUS, for more years than I care to remember. I also have my full Amateur Radio licence and have had a lifetime obsession with aircraft and in radio. I have spent many hours following, what I call, my 2 obsessions, I used to frequently listen to LDOC's (amazing what I have heard over the years with pilots and operations staff being at loggerheads etc) but the point of writing on here just now is...

Years ago I was listening on AKL Oceanic (5643) and an NZ aircraft operating NAN to AKL was asked by Oceanic to make contact with marine frequency 2182KHZ to try and make contact with a yacht that the marine operator could not contact. The NZ crew made contact with the yacht and they relayed the required info between the shore based station and the yacht. I am sure the aircraft didn't deviate from his course but acted as a relay station between the yacht and the ground. This 3 way conversation went on for some time.

I have spent just about all day trying to find any info on this from Google without success and so I am wondering if anyone can help me with any info they may have or know of regarding this. I am only guessing now but it could have been in the 1970's or around that time.

It is not the assistance given by Air Canada and Air New Zealand to a yachtie off the coast of Australia in 2012 nor is it the amazing assistance that Captain Gordon Vette gave to the Cessna pilot over the Pacific in December 1978. I remember both of those 2 occurrences very well.

Any info, however small will be greatly appreciated, thanks so much guys and gals in anticipation.

Happy flying to you all !!!

Is it perhaps the 1994 Queens Birthday Storm?

Thanks so much for your reply MJH but no it wasn't that one, it makes great reading though and I do appreciate your effort to help. slightly off thread but I remember a yacht race north of New Zealand many years ago where a few yachts got into trouble and one of my Air New Zealand colleagues was drowned during that storm that hit the yachts racing.
