That was a great airshow.

(except for the accident, if my recollection is correct about the year)

By 1983, inflation had struck. Dual in a 'Schofields Flying Club' Warrior was $86-00 per hour. But only $56-00 solo and their oldest Warrior was then only about five years old..

Sadly, I could only afford to fly one hour per week.

(Fortunately, there was an elderly C152 owner who based his aircraft there. And was more than happy for us student pilots to accompany him as 'safety pilots'. He was happy to do an hour of circuits with the lucky pax getting to do half of them.. And for free!)

djpil - I think you are correct.
I was just learning to fly and it was a bit of a shock. Very hot conditions, a shocked crowd and stunned silence from the commentary team.

Was that this one - a Tobago VH-TBC? If so, the report cover puts it in 1982, while the body of the text says 1983! Looks like it might have been 1983 though.

Great find though, can't imagine a 2-page advertising spread in The Age for a local airshow in today's environment! And BZA was only a couple of years old!

I was there that day with my 5 yo son. It was very hot. The crash, I recall, was behind a pine plantation, away from the crowd.
It was only apparent by the ensuing cloud of dust.
Still, very sobering if you're a pilot.
I believe the pilot passed away three weeks later.
