Pearl Aviation Sheds Staff

From ABC

Pearl Aviation sheds staff in Darwin as mining downturn bites - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

A Northern Territory aviation company owned by the prominent Paspaley pearling family is downsizing and shedding staff in the face of a mining industry downturn.

Pearl Aviation – which, on its website says it employs more than 200 staff – has confirmed in a statement to the ABC that it is restructuring its Darwin operations.

"Pearl Aviation's Darwin-based charter operations will be downsized in response to the reduced demand for small aircraft, which has come about with the decline in the resources sector," the statement said.

"Pear Aviation is working to minimise the impact on jobs and to support affected individuals and families."

Nearly two years ago, Darwin airline Vincent Aviation collapsed and about 100 staff lost their jobs.

Pearl Aviation has not yet responded to questions as to how many redundancies there will be, when they will be rolled out, and whether they will be voluntary or target specific positions.

I assume yes a 900, should the family buy only a Getz to get around?

That family took big risks to get were they got to, will you buy them a meal every day if they end up with a sinking ship?

Not likely tight but!

A 50 was first brought as it was cheaper than insurance on RPT flights with all airlines.

I assume you believe that all pilots should also work 2,000 hrs per year as a normal worker. I could go on but Nick will have given more than $500 million to aviation over the years than he got from it.

Not sure what owning a 900 has to do with shedding staff...so. Understand your question.

Pretty sure Mr Paspaley have provided enough meals on he tables over the years to be held in reasonable regards.

Contracts come and go, and with such, so do jobs.

Want a secure job, ....join the city council, (and even that is not so secure).

Mr Milk - at Essendon, maybe you saw the C550 VH-PSM that is/was still in the old Pearl colours, barely a fuselage now having been stripped of engines and wings.
Hasn't been owned by Pearl since about 2004.

Knowing several of the staff who are affected by this, they all knew it was a matter of time. Still doesn't stop the sting when it happens unfortunately.

Owning a Falcon has absolutely nothing to do with what's happened here, they are after all a business! I don't think that there are any successful business men and women in this world who have had every venture become a resounding success.

VH-PSM, Citation operated by Shortstop but now sitting on a frame minus engines and a few other components.

Perhaps not worth upgrading to ADSB specks?

Sign of the times with Pearl, oil and mining downturn not so many dollars coming through the til.

Does the Pearl Pilots EBA, have a redundancy clause?

How many 2 go from Aero Rescue

Looking bad for those within Aero Rescue as well

What is to happen to all those crews & Do 328s aircraft when the contract is passed over to Cobham

It's really gunna hurt those guys & girls & parent Company for not having prepared plans

We do wish them the best, look around & see a few aviation jobs still being advertised here / their.

Have heard Qlink is having special arranged interviews to suit recent redundant crews in BN recently due to the impending MASS exodus about to happen down there & the omnipresent crew shortages.
