Avdata - Roma - Maranoa Council letter
Anyone else received a letter from Maranoa Council demanding a six page application for an account with council be filled in? Includes a two page deed of guarantee and indemnity requiring two guarantors. What the??...i only go there a couple of times a year, get an Avdata account and pay it.
The letter says "Failing to return these forms will result in your account being closed without further notice and no goods/services from Council or Avdata will be permitted until the Account Application process has been completed and approved, unless paid for on a cash basis."
can I expect to get similar letters from each an every council whose airport I visit?

Someone should remind Avdata and their customers of the guarantee of free trade between the States as outlined in The Australian Constitution. This caper may work for Queenslanders but not for the rest of the joint.

Yes, got one of them.... Same deal, I land there 2 or 3 times a year, have always paid the AvData bill. If I land without the approved account, will I be arrested? Impounded? Very strange decision from Council.....

The "authorised person" may use "reasonable force" in carrying out a variety of powers including the removal of persons and property from the aerodrome.
I haven't found the current landing fee for a lightie but it's supposed to be on their website according to ERSA.

I have been in contact with one of the councillor's. That letter was only meant to go to local account holders, not Avdata customers. Normal Avdata billing is still in place.
Somehow, the letter went to a much wider audience than intended.
Cheers

Folks,
The legislation makes an interesting read, especially the bit that "authorizes" effectively, damage to aircraft, by purporting to shield the council and any relevant person from action that results in aircraft damage when using "reasonable force".
Particularly in Queensland (which has a state Civil Aviation Act) I wonder how that would play out v. the Commonwealth laws re. persons causing damage to an aircraft??
Tootle pip!!
