the ATSB says it is inspecting the logs and service history of the Bell 206 to determine what caused the helicopter's tail and rear rotor to strike the ground.
A media spokesman with the aviation safety authority says investigators will interview the pilot in a 'desk based investigation' from Canberra.
An auto rotation gone slightly wrong?
There doesn't appear to have been too much energy at the time of impact and unless the tail rotor has been moved it's not too far away from the main body of the aircraft.
BUGGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From local news reports interviewing the pilot, and a fixed wing instructor who happened to be near at the time, they had a "catastrophic engine failure" at about 80-100 feet.
Very very lucky, the outcome means it was an expensive day, rather than a tragic one.
