Morton Bay water sports social group.

Ozmates and fellow ppruner's, I would like to commence a local water sports social groups for pilots and other interested parties. The objective will be to have BBQs social sailing, jet skiing and fishing around Morton Bay and evirons. Perhaps we could arrange a social meet up on a beach and burn meat/drink beer every now and again. Any takers? Sail boats, tinnies and jet skis all welcome!

WE broke the mast in the last race, just waiting on the insurance to come through.

Well, wherever we head off to, I think some of you guys will get there before me unless I set out on the previous day .

There are some great spots: Peel Island is nice and has some limited overnight camping (about 30 people).

Coochiemudlo Is. has a good, safe beach for swimming and there is a pretty good fish& chip shop and super market in case people need to buy anything.

Keep the suggestions coming !

Meanwhile, over in the Rotorheads forum they are wondering why we even need a boat to get to the beach !

Don't forget if you're over actually on Moreton island there's the strip there... but the locals would know more on it's availability.

2 of them actually, although last I heard, Kooringal wasn't open to visitors any longer. Bloody boats, if I hadn't spent so much on them over the years I wouldn't be sharing and hiring aircraft - although chances are I'm still ahead financially

Depending on what you want to do and how far you want to go, there is plenty to do on Moreton Bay, as mentioned Tangalooma wrecks, Coochie and Peel for picnics, also Little Ship Club at Dunwich for lunch, the Gutter Bar same, a bit further south Harrigans is worth a visit, Couran Cove attracts a few undesireables (ie mods) but otherwise good for a feed and a swim.

I feel the urge..............

All those locations are fine but not suitable for those without boats of with tinnies or jet skis. No one in their right mind would take a family to the northern end of Straddie or Morton Island in a 12 foot tinning!!!

For a first event I'd suggest somewhere that can be accessed by water and by road, has a boat ramp, has barbecues, kids can swim and is reasonably accessible from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Jacobs Well or Paradise Point could be suitable, subject to whether they have barbecues?

If it must be on an island, Couran Cove is great for families and relatively safe to get there in a tinnie or jet ski from Jacobs Well via Tipplers Passage.

Thoughts?

Nice. We were looking good for OMR, I was gutted when we broke the mast. Next year maybe! I was also planning to head to bay to bay, but I am overseas at the time, so no good this year.

As for moreton bay stuff, I am always happy to take people out for day cruises. For those with boats on the northside, a great place is a trip into redcliffe for a few beers. We often do trips to moreton too.

As Spinex suggested, little ships club is good too. Access is possible for boat and car (via the ferry).

tail wheel, jacobs well has bbq's. Sometimes we stop there for breakfast when cruising down to southport for the surf to city race.

Back in the day when we had a cruiser like TW does, all those places and many more were great.

These days I have a fast ski boat and Tangalooma is a quick trip on a good day.

So anywhere will suit me if the wx is nice, and not many jet skis will beat me (except a few )

Anyone want to set a date and venue? Jacobs Well looks the go due to access by both car and boat?
