Ward Express Learjet

Rego's were WFE and WFJ. We also used "sludge" SLJ (one of the fastest Lear's around.)
Learjet 35, VH-WFE, Wards Express
Learjet 35, VH-WFJ, Wards Express
Some more good picky's here;
A Different View Of Sydney - Page 7 - Sydney Airport Message Board
which shows the Falcon they used too.

cac sabre, I presume you are modelling one of these? They had an extra emergency exit above the right crew seat, you can just see the black outline in one of those photos. I understand they were the only Lears in the world to have this.
Apparently, I checked a database I have access to and they were ordered new by "Wards Jet Freight" in 1978 and delivered in 1979. My involvement with them was for a few years in the late 1980s. I did maintenance training with Flight Safety in Tuscon and they had never heard of the mod for the emergency exit in the roof - the instructors were all ex factory guys. They also had 36 inch wide cabin doors, apparently 24 inch wide was standard - or perhaps more usual.

I did my Dash endorsement on that machine many many years ago, not long after it was dragged from the hangar after NIA went bust. Still had food in the carts when it was locked up..
It went on to become NJD with NJS and then JSJ.
Lost track of it but think it is still flogging around.
No APU made it a bit of a pain to operate, particularly at unsupported airfields with no ground power.

Nice work 'CAC', just dragged my LR35 model off the shelf, (had it made & painted for me years ago) got a bit of dust on it but still reminds me of the heady days when flying was fun, an art, now it's so automated a monkey could fly !
What scale it that Wards Lear?

Yeah I believe mine is 1/48th also, rather small but easy to place on any shelf.
As you would know the ability to weather a scale model of any kind is where the real skill is
If I could work out how to get a piccy on here I'd post one but never could work that out, old school I guess

Weren't the Wards Learjets painted purple on top of the fuselage at one stage?
I know a Darwin stockbroker who did a lot if back of the clock rides in the Lear's to get urgent paperwork to Adelaide or Melbourne in the days before fax machines. The Lear was much preferred to be going down the track in the middle of the night than in one of Ossies Navajo's!

VH-NID
I remember watching VH-NID arrive in BNE after its ferry from Toronto as a young 15 year old boy.
From memory the guys that flew it to Lord Howe and Norfolk had no end of troubles with the aircraft from a reliability perspective.

Confirmed VH-JSJ is now P2-NAT and has an APU.
