New QLD workplace laws - Union fees

I could be interpreting this wrong, but as far as I can see, new workplace relation laws being rushed through QLD parliament this week will make deducting union fees from an employees' pay an offence.

If this is in fact true, what impact will it have on a lot of us in aviation who currently have our union fees taken out of our pay? This QLD mob really need to go.

"In a move Mr Bleijie said would save employers from payroll deduction costs, the bill makes deducting union fees from employees’ pay an offence."

No drama....

Could you not simply arrange with your financial institution - bank - to have the amount deducted automatically, monthly or whatever, from your nominated account / credit card?

You still have the records for taxation purposes....

Good. One less bit of paperwork that the Employer is expected to do for nothing. If the employee wants to be in a Union, well and good...but pay your own bloody fees.

But an OFFENCE?????? Sledge hammers and walnuts seem to cross my mind. Yet another serious over reaction from a mob of control freaks.

They should make it an offence to deduct tax at source as well, but I don't see them doing that. (edit: and super and all the other shïte like workcover premiums)

Simple principle, why should an employer have to pay money to a union on behalf of its employees.

There is a dichotomy in this that the new law removes and good on the Qld Govt for having the guts to normalise the situation.

Each person (employee) is responsible for their own union fees the employer should not be involved as a collection agent.

Fair enough if they want to stop it being a requirement that employers have to provide that service, but making it an offence so that the ones that want to can't do it anymore?! That's crazy!

The Liberal party is becoming more authoritarian-right and less libertarian-right day by day.

not surprising any more considering technically, being a member of a flying club and being in a group of 3 or more is illegal. or going to a party with 12 or more people and 3 or more people swear is punishable by 12 months in gaol/or $12,000 fine.

welcome to the Campbell regime.

Probably to ensure the "authoritarian" unions don't re-impose the deduction on employers through other means..
