Imported Pilots??

Just a question to the broader Aussie Aviation community:

There was a lot of media yabber last year about airlines employing foreign pilots on 457 Visas in Aus. Did it ever eventuate? If so what airlines used this Visa to import pilots for a fixed term? Was it successful? Odd questions I know but I'm writing a Uni assignment. Any help would be great (happy to get PMs - and not looking to start a sh*it fight, just wanting honest views ) Thanks

At the risk of inflaming passions around the place, you might research the 1989 Airline Dispute.

That was the start of the 457 pilot importing exercise.

Yes it did happen. You will have to talk to someone from the airlines involved, the old SkyWest is a good place to start...
