It normally takes around 18 months to get your commercial pilot licence (CPL), and then one build flying hours from there. Jetstar has a cadet program, which is a great avenue into the industry. The role has evolved to one of 'flight management' in the 21st century due to the advanced levels of technology in place. There is always weather to be conscious of, systems to monitor, and passengers to cater for.
