Light aircraft at Geraldton WA

Is this one on the rumour mill?

A man has died in a light aircraft crash about 35km south-east of Geraldton.

Police said eyewitnesses saw a plane crash into a field and burst into flames about 2km inland from Butcher Road, Bookara.

Dongara police arrived about 4.45pm and fire crews from Dongara and Geraldton then attended to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was extinguished about 5.30pm.

A police spokesperson said a 59-year-old Dongara man was found deceased at the scene.

The spokesperson said it was understood the man was the sole occupant of the aircraft.

It is understood the plane had taken off from the recreational airstrip at Geraldton Airport before the accident occurred.
