Sitting quietly on the sidelines at Temora (6th June '15). It wasn't on the program, but we dared to hope that it might be an unscheduled inclusion.

Time to up load some photos
My mate just got his instrument rating, he was keen to fly IFR so we went went up to Echuca and had a great Roast Lunch at the club.
The journey home was pretty special...Thanks to ATC who gave us our clearance right over YMML, my mate thought it was pretty special to get this on his second IFR flight as PIC

Caught up with some mates yesterday. Flew home cruising IFR on top as the Sun set.

this really is where the certification system fails.
My TAA. tech advanced aircraft panel soon to be installed
not 1, but 3 totally independent PFD's, with 3 totally independent AHRS units. all with 3 independent battery backups giving an extra 2 hours life if all power goes. and 2 independent pitot static systems.
but try putting it in something certified...

why not? is it due to the ipads themselves? or the GPS receivers? which are remote from both the Ipads, and provide their data via the AHRS units in the back. using both GPS and GLONASS systems.
Would you trust the MGL Xtreme EFIS and its systems? or Garmin systems?
im not trying to be a smartarse or anything, genuinely curious as to why people prefer to use some systems over others, (im studying the human factors in advanced aircraft flight deck operations at the moment)
What if the ipad setup was installed using professionally made aviation wire looms, using cannon type plugs? between all the system components?
oh, and for info, the above setup will be in a Day VFR only aircraft.. so if all else fails, you can still fly looking out the window.

My logbook tells me that this was taken on perhaps the 3rd of June as we crossed paths very close to where you took this photo which if I'm not mistaken was in the middle of Port Phillip Bay

Absolutely. Big difference between the Enigma, Garmin,Aspen, Dynon and the iPad. The iPad is a consumer product, aimed at sucking people in to update their iPhone, iPad, iwhatever, every two years. It is aimed to look nice. Don't worry I own two iPads an iPhone, MacBook, iMac and three iPods. In the family we have another two MacBooks another iPhone and I don't know how many iPods the kids have . So I am an iWanker. I love OzRunways and use it whenever I go flying. And I will be getting the new iPad mini when it comes out in Sep/Oct. But it is not a serious aviation piece that I would ever trust for attitude, or any other type of flying device. OzRunways is great but it semi-regularly shuts down on me and requires a restart. So I would have zero faith in that setup. I have flown behind Dynon's and never had an issue and Avidyne and Garmin 1000's and they all perform as advertised. The iPad is good at what it does (moving map, all my charts and maps,AIP, ERSA etc) but it is not designed for anything else. Spend an extra US$3000 and get the new Aspen 1000 VFR setup if you want a glass PFD. Infinitely more reliable in that environment. Mind you if you are just tootling VFR as long as I had a backup airspeed and altimeter fill your boots!

Just saw the Dynon in the middle as your PFD. I would never class the iPad as a PFD. So in that photo from my perspective you have one PFD, one game PFD and one moving maps of unknown reliability.
Just my two cents.

yep, the third, backup, in the middle is a MGL Xtreme Efis. still a long way to go with transponder installation required.
dont forget, its strictly day VFR Only. so even if all 3 fail, we can still fly the old fashioned way by looking outside, remember flying like that? its not that hard.
though to be honest, after doing a NVFR rating in an Aspin equipped Cherokee, i have more confidence in the twin independent ipad setup.
I run iPads with an iLevil AHRS. I cannot trust the iLevil unit, it does the occasional gyro wobble even to the point that it may go upside down on me for no reason, but for VFR it's great, it didn't cost a lot, has ASI, Alt, VSI, ball, compass, G meter etc. U/L, you should have contacted me about it and I would have told you all of this... don't bet your life on it if you need to, even in a bind
PS: I hope you don't have to move those 208's on float out of the hangar to get yours out! (assuming that's what they both are)
