Lang Hancock's Cessna C337

Watching SBS series Dirty Business, shows Lang Hancock flying a C337 around the Pilbara.

Anyone know which C337 he owned?

VH-DPT

From aviation historian Geoff Goodall:

Cessna 337B VH-DPT was purchased new and added to the Register 17.1.67 to Hancock Prospecting P/L, Perth. It was leased to Aviation Services (WA) Ltd at Jandakot from 1970 until Hancock Prospecting sold it 14.11.72. Aviation Services was the charter affiliate of the Royal Aero Club of WA, who also had Aztec VH-ASH.

DPT is now a T28. So the 337 has had something happen to it.

Don't know about a C337, but he used to own an Aerocommander 500S. Rego was ACZ, & I have seen footage of Gina flying it with Lang sitting in the RHS. Later in life ACZ was owned & operated by Augusta Airways, which later became Airlines Of South Australia. I know the aircraft well - it used to do the world's longest mail run from Port Augusta up to Boulia & back. Twenty seven stops within two days. As far as I know it is with GAM now, under a different rego.

I flew an AC500 VH-ACL in 1980 which was reputed to be ex Lang Hancock. Executive Airservices where operating it, and from a very fading memory, it had been traded into Exec's, perhaps on a AC690? For the time, it was a well equipped Shrike.

An aircarft belonging to Lang was hanging from the ceiling in Geralton Museum and is probably still there.

The AC 690B Lang Hancock used to own was VH-PCD - very nicely equipped both in the cockpit & cabin. Got quite a few hours on that one.

It used to upset my boss at the time because I used to call it the Public Control Department - after the Edward Wooward TV series 1990 (anybody remember that great series?)

One of his old gold diggers used to (annoyingly, dahhhhlings) appear every few months. Thank Christ we haven't heard from it for a while.

Trusting my (increasingly) failure-prone memory here, but didn't he also have a AC500 VH-BLH?

You are correct, ACL was indeed an ex-LH AC500.

Flew VH-PCD (SN.11414) out of Bankstown '79-'80, I assume this was after Lang's use of it?..At that time it was owned by Australian Metals..

Lang Hancock's Cessna c337

Trusting my old memory.... I think Macknight Airlines AC50 VH-MAV, was originally ordered by Lang Hancock, but was cancelled and John Macknight picked it up.

I think Tinnie is right with the Falcon - a 20 IIRC, the pilot of which became Gina's first husband I think.

Yeah he didn't have the Lear for long VH-LHJ (I think), before he got the Falcon. It was the curvature of the earth that got the Lear off the deck in the Pilbara!

They tried to make Greg a pilot but he was having trouble with VH-ACL.
Can't imagine him in the Falcon!
Led to believe he was eventually paid out with a taxi licence in Sydney, and a couple of cabs.

I remember the lady refueller who was at YLEC back when Lang & the Filipino F****y dropped in for a top up on their honeymoon telling me that there was a bed in the back of the aircraft, & wifey was feeling up the pilot as she came down the steps!
