Vale: Eddie McCauley.
I was sorry to read of the passing of Eddie McCauley of Wellington at the age of 87 last week. Eddie would have been known to many in the aviation industry throughout N.Z. I understand that he was a life member of the Wellington Aero Club. He was also well known among the car dealing fraternity throughout the lower north island and was quite a legend because of some of the strange cars that he bought, and an even greater legend because of the fact that he managed to actually sell them. Characters like him are few, and far between, and it was a privelege to know him for more than 40 years. He will be missed.

Many of us who frequented the Wellington Aero Club during the 60s and the 70s well remember Ed, particularly his familiar greeting of "Hiyah Fullas" as he walked in the door of the bar for a quiet one on a Sunday night. Ed had a heart of gold, and would never see you stuck for transport. If he knew who you were (as a previous Club member) and you turned up from overseas, he would always make a vehicle available for you to use while you were in the local area.
RIP and fly high Ed, for you were one of the good guys.
